Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane University has been the Big Easy’s summer theatre destination for fifty-two years. Summer Lyric employs over 200 actors, directors, choreographers, designers and musicians from New Orleans, the Gulf South Region and major theatre cities across the U.S. each summer to produce three large-scale musicals in historic Dixon Hall. Back in 1968, SLT started out as a community theatre utilizing the talents of students, faculty and community members to produce its shows. Back then, the company had a family atmosphere for both its company and audience members. Summer Lyric was where many young people got to see their first live stage production. It also became the training ground for many young New Orleanians, who would leave NOLA for professional careers in prominent theatre centers across the U.S. and Europe, including Broadway. More than fifty years later, we are proud that nearly 10,000 audiences members each summer still consider Summer Lyric Theatre their theatre home.
