“Culture is the widening of the mind and of the spirit.” –Jawaharlal Nehru
The Japan Society of New Orleans, founded in 1928, endeavors to widen minds and spirits by sharing the cultures of Japan and New Orleans with each other. Our motto is “See, Hear, & Read Japan!” We work to bring people together over the common interest of the people and culture of Japan. If you are interested in Japan, or have a background in Japan or Japanese culture, come find out what we’re all about and get involved! Our activities include a cinema series, cultural talks and presentations, Japanese language practice, culinary events, participation in New Orleans’ annual Japan Fest, hosting visitors and guest lecturers from Japan, and managing an exchange program and relationship with New Orleans’ sister city: Matsue, Japan. Join us to widen your mind and your spirit!
