Friends of UNO Library

Need to thin out your bookshelves? Throughout the year the Friends of the University of New Orleans Library collect and sort donated books – we even do pickups! Then twice a year we hold book sales, raising thousands of dollars to support special purchases, staff training, and more for the UNO Library.

When the UNO Library needed a dedicated server for the digitized Louisiana Supreme Court records in their Special Collections, they turned to the Friends of the UNO Library for funds to purchase that expensive piece of equipment. Scholars from major universities around the country and abroad regularly access these court records, which date back to 1813; hundreds of books in various fields contain citations for this UNO holding.

Book sales aren’t all we do – over the years the Friends have sponsored lectures by visiting scholars and worked with University departments to host public lecture series associated with UNO courses. Occasionally the Friends invite local authors to campus to discuss their recent books.

Our membership includes faculty, students, alumni and members of the Greater New Orleans community. We believe that a strong, well-supported library not only serves the needs of academic researchers, but is perhaps the single most important resource available to students as they pursue their education. If you’re a book lover or a library supporter – please join us!
