The NOLA Project

Back in spring of 2005, a group of like-minded students studying Theatre at New York University got together and dreamed up an ensemble theatre company that would be based in New Orleans and dedicated to performing a wide variety of superbly acted plays. They hoped to do everything: classics, Shakespeare, Chekhov, new plays, children’s theatre, the works! The unifying element in it all would be the ensemble of talented artists making the work come to life. After getting off to a rocky start thanks to a certain K-word that interrupted the run of the company’s very first production, The Cripple of Inishmaan, the group regathered and got right back down to work. Today that original company of eight has grown into a thriving ensemble of 31 total artists. We have produced over 40 major productions, run a comprehensive summer theatre intensive for high school students, create secondary improv-based programming, and are a vital part of the artistic fabric of New Orleans! The NOLA Project’s unique brand of bold, poppy, and provocative theatre has come to define the group and the company was just named the “Best Local Theatre Company” by the readers of Gambit Weekly. We are so happy that we selected New Orleans to lay down our roots, and so very honored that the city has welcomed us so warmly for the past twelve years.
